I am thinking about buying rear shackles for my 06 screw 4x4. I can't make up my mind if I want to lift the front with the spacer or buy the rear shackles. Anyone have any thoughts?

I lowered my 4x2 when I first got it because I did not like the rake in the front. bad mistake for my taste. This gave it that low rider sport truck look. The look that IMHO ruins what a truck should look like. So I took them right back off and ordered the AUTO Spring 2.5" for the front. Gave me the look I wanted, i just need to get larger tires on after I wear out the oem 265/60 R18. I need more heigth now in a tire to fill some fender well. the 265/60 R18 are 30.6" diameter. I will be going with a 275/70R18 which will give me 33". Pics in gallery.
Anyway it depends on your taste, but I personally think it would be a mistake especially on a 4x4.
Today I put on a 3" front leveling kit I got off Ebay (pictures tomorrow as it was too dark tonight when I finished) from Fat Bob's Garage. I forgot to measure the front before I put it on, but when I was finished the front measured 1/4" higher than the rear, however it looks level. It went on in about 2.5 hours and I am very happy with it. The kit was $89 shipped. My neighbor is a serviceman at the local Ford dealership and he helped me put it on and said he was impressed with the quality of the product and how it mounted up. I just ordered some Toyo Open Country AT 325/60/18 tires from treadepot.com for $206 a tire shipped. Will post pictures of them on after I get them and have them put on.
Are you able to compress the spring enuff to install the spacers or do you have to go thru all of the seperating the ball joints and that? Will you have to align the front end?
I been thinkin of going up 2.5" in the front to level my '04 up. It has the heavy spring package and sits up pretty high in the rear.
This is what I did after the truck was on jack stands and the wheels were removed.
1. Removed the upper bolts (3) from the strut mount. 15mm
2. Remove the sway bar lower link pin from the bottom of the control arm. 18mm
3. Disconnect tie rod. 21mm
4. Pop the tie rod out.
5. Remove the upper ball joint nut. 21mm
6. Disconnect it from the upper control arm. Support it with a bungee cord so it doesn't over extend the CV axle.
7. Remove the strut's lower bolt (27mm) and nut (30mm)
8. Remove the strut.
9. Put the spacer on the top of the strut and put it all back together.
That's what I did in a nut shell. However other kits my be different.
You will not need to compress the spring, but you will need a alignment. The Toe will be out, and your tires will wear out prematurely on the edges if you don't get it aligned.
You will need to knock the knuckle off the upper ball joint for sure. Metric sockets(deep) and wrenches will be needed.
Are you going to put bigger tires on it? What do you want to lift it for? You can fit 33's with just the leveling kit for the front end.
The leveling kit makes the truck get rid of the ugly raked look and levels it out, and improves the looks 10 fold.
You can stuff 33s under the truck without the leveling kit, and you can stuff 35s with the leveling kit and stock rims(or rims with close to stock backspacing and offset).
