Alaskan Cruises?!
I want to go to Alaska!
Anyone here been on an Alaskan cruise? What are some "must do's"?
We have friends in Anchorage and Wasilla. Anything that cruises that way?
TIA

My wife and I did a cruise from Vancouver to Seward a few years ago. It was FANTASTIC!
You want to do an excursion at each stop. The safest way is buy then through the cruise. They cost more, and they are much more crowded. Since this is the US, I felt safe getting tours on the dock at each place. There were many people selling tours each time we got off the ship. We had no problem finding excellent tours for far less than the ship was charging. For example, the tours in Junuea are mostly whale watching. The ship's tour was $159 per person, and there was at least 100 people on the whale watching boat. We found a tour that went to the same place and saw the same whales for $99 per person. Plus, our tour was on a 28 foot boat with two other passengers and two crew. We didn't have to fight for a place at the rail to be able to see. He also took us to see sea lions and eagles.
In Anchorage after the cruise I booked a dog sled ride on a glacier. The flew us to the glacier by helicopter, introduced us to the dogs and some 2 day old pups, then took us on an hour long dogsled ride. It was AMAZING! It was the highlight of a great trip.
Have a great time on the cruise!
