I have a 68 429 and a 77 460 the question is if i put the 429 heads on the 460 will my hp go up, how much? and would i have to use the push rods off the 429. the only mods are edelbrock performer intake / 750 edelbrock carb .any info helps thxs
yes the HP will increase very very slightly due to the bump in compression, but only from the higher compression not from the early heads being better at flow or effiecency, you will also not increase your fuel economy at all but most likely will force yourself to buy premium gas. This is due to the compression being high enough but will still not have decent quench due to the later model engine having the pistons too far down in the hole. you will have to use the valve train on the 68 most likely
You will actually improve your power more without causing an need for increasing the octane of your fuel by swapping timing chains or putting in a double roller timing chain into that 77 and set it straight up to eliminate the build in factory retarded timing that was done for emissions.
