I am at a loss to figure out why I don't have any heat when I turn on my heater. I have checked and the fan changes speed the actuators are working etc. put it only blows out cold air all the time no matter what the setting...
I have a 2003 F250 I purchased used with only 50K on it I didn't find out until after all the Sales stuff that the heater doesn't work and they won't fix it so I need some help figuring out what it might be so that maybe I can fix it myself...
any help would be appriciated
thank you
Some years, not sure when it started, have a valve on the lines that run the hot water into the heater core. If that failed and is stuck in the shut position, then not hot water can't get in. By design, the valve is closed when the vent is off or on max a/c. Any other setting, it should be open. Open your hood and check it out and have someone move the setting to "vent" and this should open the valve and then to "Max AC" and that should shut the valve.
If you don't have one of these valves, I'd recomend you check your coolant level.
Get your engine fully warmed up, then shut it off and go under the hood and start feeling all the hoses. If there is some sort of clogged valve going to the heater core you'll feel it, hot hose upstream, cold hose downstream.
If this isn't it, maybe the door to the core isn't opening properly?
Also, years ago I was driving a Chevy 1/2 ton that did the same thing. It turned out to be a stuck thermostat. The engine didn't overheat until I took it for a 40 mile drive.
Is that valve vaccum or electric?? How do I fix it if it is stuck closed?
Thanks for all the helpful advice I'll be checking the valve tomorrow and will post back with any findings..
Oh by the way can it be pulled out and a hose barb fitting be put in it's place?
Thanks again
