Hey guys, I am in the process of buying a 04 f-150, 5.4 from a local dealer. I actually got to see the vehicle before they had put it through their reconditioning process and went ahead and agreed tentatively on a price with the dealer. The biggest issue to me was a shake at idle which they have now diagnosed and tell me is because the engine mounts need to be replaced at a cost of $850. They will split the cost with me since I already have such a great price and they cannot loose anymore money. Now besides the fact that I am not going to pay any extra money for this truck, (especially considering it isn't going to cost them anything but the parts) is this a normal price for engine mount replacement? Thanks a lot!
That doesn't sound right, $850 for replacing motormounts to me sounds like they are ripping you off big time......
The real problem is probably with either the ignition (coil or sparkplugs) / fuel problem (bad injector) causing the shakes not the motor mounts.
I would be very leary about buying this truck.....
Some have reported success curing the rough idle condition by replacing the mounts. All three mounts have a combined cost of about $250 and the book says it takes about 7 hours of labor.
Verify that the mount replacement actually cures the issue before you take delivery.
ok thanks a lot guys. If it is gonna take 7 hours then I guess 850 isn't too much. Still doesn't change the fact that I am not going to pay them any more for the vehicle. Thanks!
ok so I called them on monday and told them I would not pay for the repair to the vehicle and they said they could not sell it to me at the price we had agreed on. I told them to call me if they changed their mind and I haven't heard anything out of them yet. Thanks for the advice.
