OK I am looking at a 93 bronco, it has 45k on a rebuilt motor (302), 25k on a rebuilt tranny, and the front end has been rebuilt the body has 160k on it. There is just a couple of small spots of rust from the pictures. I am looking at trading my 97 Ram 1500 4X4 for it even up, My truck has 170k on it, the tranny was rebuilt with maybe 10k on it. There is about 1000-1500 difference on blue book value, but with everything that has been done to the bronco I am ok with that. It kind of evens out.
I have a couple of questions for you.
What are some common problems with these and what should I be looking for when I go look at it?
My 93' needed ***** joints last year at 125,000 on drviers side and now the passenger side is due for it's third set.Just had all new bearings replaced in the rear-end before x-mas also.It was whining and clunking!!ABS light just came on in Nov. also and is not working.Radius arm brackets rusted out two years ago.Made loud clunk when backing and putting on and off brake.I don't off road with this either!
My 93 XLT has 135,000, is garaged and rarley sees dirt roads. I've replaced the radius arm bushings 3 times. Each time the mechanic says these are the best ones made. Ford put the right bushing next to the catalitic (SP) converter and it bakes the bushing. I'm having a little problem right now with the electronic four wheel drive unit. We live in the mountains and go through front brakes every 18,000 miles, but I think that just a Ford thing.
I've owned it for 13 years and we towed a pretty big boat with it. It's been very reliable and comfortable.
Cracks in the rain gutters, tail gate rust, cab corner cracks in the upper rear door corners, rust out of wheel arch in rear.
Floor pan cracks. radiator leaks, crappy vacuum lines. play in steering, oil sensor and valve cover leaks.
slushy shifts and clunks when put into gear,
steering pump whine.
Do you still own one?
Any truck with 15 yrs of service will have it's share of mechanical problems, but these trucks are getting harder to come by and are the last of the "real" SUVs out there.
My FSB needs a new rear mainseal and a new power steering pump. It has little rust and is pushing 140,000 miles on the original 5.8.
I always wanted an FSB and I intend to keep it(and work on it) for a long time.
Well, I didn't trade for it. The cab corners were just starting to crack (by the rain gutter). The rocker panels inside the door frames were pretty rusted. It needed some exhaust work. Overall a HUGE disappointment from what guy made this bronco out to be. He said the front end was rebuilt. My fault for assuming but when I think of "front end rebuilt" that includes ball joints, tie rods, etc.. Well it was only a couple of things that I don't even remember. I didn't even take it for a drive. It was not even worth it, I would have needed 2000-2500 cash to make this an even trade.
