I haven't messed with a six, but I saw a picture of the rocker arm in a book, and it looked like a rail rocker. The rails fit over the valve stem and keep the rocker aligned. Chevy rockers do not have rails, the pushrod hole in the head is small enough that it keeps the rocker aligned in a chevy head.
They also described the 300 six stud mount as "positive lock". I take this to mean the nut that holds the rocker arm on runs down till it hits the shoulder on the stud, and stops. This means it's not adjustable, and certainly the chevy rockers would need adjustment correct?
yes you can do it
i have
the studs on my 4.9 are 3-8" where the rocker's pivot ball is but step down to 5-16" for the jam nut. this is so the nut can be tightened to the step in the stud.
problem is you can not tighten the nut that far with the chevy rockers or you will end up pulling the stud out of the head.
so what you can do is buy some 5-16" nuts to run down on top of the original nuts and jam them.
when you start doing this, do one cylinder at a time. run the first nut down until you get just the slightest resistance. start truck and adjust rocker just enough to stop the clatter. then jam that nut
did this last summer and they have not loosened yet
when i do a valve job on this head i will change out the ford studs and go with straight "screw in" 3-8" studs and then use some poly locks
truck does seem to run better
good luck

you boys are wasting your time with those rockers. if the engine dosent blow out what it sucks in your just pissing in the wind. i know how to make little ones come alive. i can help you just ask. brian8763 or randall2051. check me out on you tube. type in( hot rod street truck.) it will be a little 74 with a 302 stock rockers! blacksleeper
the rocker arms from autozone were less than three bucks a set,
which is one rocker arm one pivot ball and one 3-8" nut that is useless for this application. you will need a new valve cover gasket
and 12 5-16" jam nuts that you can get at any hardware store for probably .25 each, should be the grade 5 or 8's.

looks like you spent almost nothing that going to amount to nothing thats not how you make hp bet you didnt even gain a horse. probaly lost some in mid range brian
you might be right you might be wrong, like u said it didnt cost much but if you think about it a second you might realize u are getting a little more valve lift and more cam duration. kinda like putting an rv cam in. without all the expense and time.
i had to take the valve cover off anyway so whats the big deal
i will say for sure it DOES NOT RUN WORSE.
i just answered a guys question on chevy rockers and since i did it i told him what i know.
i didnt start a post and try to talk u or anybody else into doing it.
thats the one thing about this forum i have seen is all these guys that tell you it is a waste of time or it cant be done or some other negative bs.
sometimes, it is satisfying to be able to do it, damn everone who says it is a waste of time or money or whatever. its my time and my money.i just want to see if i can get it done
sorry everyone for the long rant
have a good day
