I think that the pix is in relation to someone wanting to know where/how to raise the fuel pressure by the shim (BB) method.
You want to take your pressure reading at the schrader valve before the regulator is shimmed then again after the shim so you will know what increase you have gained. It's a good mod and I would imagine that most have shimmed their regulators by this method.
PRO:
It raises the fuel pressure to where it should be, if it's currently low.
Engine idle is smoother.
Throttle response is much better.
Engine seems quieter (IMHO).
Slight increase in MPG (I went from 15.75 MPG to 16 MPG - no other mods)

where would i find out how to shim? when i put my chip up to 70 and 90 horse my idle and my top end are starving for fuel.. and as cold as mornings have been here in idaho cold starts arent very easy either..
i am in emmett. and ill start to do the rep points i didnt know what they were. heck i should have posting a lot of points. the last two weeks since i found this i have recieved tons of help!!!
Drop by my house in Nampa. I probably have an extra BB around somewhere. When I did mine, I went slow, laying out the parts in order and all that. I still finished in less than 20 minutes. That includes checking fuel pressure before and after the BB install.
my HPOP doesnt seem to be supplying enough pressure. i am having problems surging at idle and throwing codes at about 3000 rpm for undesirable fuel pressure (to low) maybe this shim could get me the pressure i need or i still need the HPOP.

I would measure you fuel pressure. The shim will help. I worked on a truck that only had 20 psi at idle and ran out of fuel at about 2700 rpm. We shimmed the FPR and brought the pressure up to 72 psi and the problems went away.
The FPR spring gets weak over time and this allows the pressure to drop. Shimming brings the pressure back up (don't go over 80 psi). If you shim the FPR and your pressure will not come up, you probably have a weak fuel pump. Also clean the FPR screen. And check the connections on the ICP. A HPX may smooth out your idle.
I would do all of the above before I looked at replacing the HPOP.
FYI...If any of this stuff (from me or others) is helpful to you, feel free to add "Rep Points" with comments to individual(s) who helped you.
when posting reps what kind oh comment is necessary if any??? like how it helped or do you just post that sort of stuff in the thread????
As I understand it, the more you write in the rep points the more points it awards. It is also good to post how it helped so that others can see it, only the person that you repped can see the comments that you write in the rep point section.
plowhand, sorry to ask but, whats the ICP and the HPX??? and as an update i shimmed the regulator. it started out at a steady 54 lbs give or take 5lbs. after the shim it went from a low of 60 to a high of 80lbs. it helped on the top end in that i could go to the yellow line without jolting and throwing a code. but it still jumps from 500 to 600 RPM 6 times when it returns to idle.
ICP (Injector Control Pressure sensor) located on the left (drivers) head inboard front, three wire connector. HPX (High Pressure Crossover) a line that is installed in the high pressure oil system from one head to the other to even out the high pressure oil system in both heads (the ICP reads the high pressure oil system pressure in the heads and sends this info to the PCM, since the ICP is only seeing the left head the pressure in the right head can be different causing a rough idle and uneven fuel delivery, the line lets the two heads even out the pressure. Check here: http://members.***.net/kcmdieselperformance/ford.htm scroll down for the OBS.
Your fuel pressure looks about right now. Did you clean the FPR screen?
thanx. i've been wondering about changing that. i'm getting enough money rapped up in replacing parts (CPS, Oil temp sensor, fuel pump, HPOP pressure regulator, etc) i might get this thing to run right just yet. ha ha ha ha
