i need engine swap help

i have a 85 ranger with the 2.8 v6 thats trying to throw a rod and i really haven't like the 2.8 its drinks to much gas and doesn't have the power for me i'm trying to switch motors but i don't know what will bolt in place of the 2.8 with as little as possible mods an a short budget any help is greatly appreciated

The 2.8, 2.9 and 4.0 all share the same mounting configuration. Physically they will bolt in aside from the wiring. In most cases the 4.0 will destroy a 2.8/2.9 transmission if you are hard on it. The problem with you having the 2.8 is you will have to change over the entire fuel system due to the EFI.

thank you one other question a friend of mine told me that the 2.8 intake will bolt up to a 2.9 to save having to change the whole fuel system??

Very few parts interchange between the 2.8 & 2.9. The intake is not one of them.

Your friend is wrong. There are only a couple parts that interchange, mostly internal engine.
