I recently purchased a 2005 F-150 with the V6 engine and automatic transmission. The truck has 57,000 miles, and I chose the V6 because Consumer Reports rated this engine as very reliable. I am very pleased with the truck, however, sometimes I get a pretty strong shudder as the engines stops after turning off the ignition. It doesn't happen every time, probably 15-20% of the time. If it matters, the truck is an XL Regular Cab with very few options, and no carpet--just a rubber floor mat. Anyone else have this problem?
I recently traded in my '98 XL 4.2 w/ 170k, and it did the same thing when I shut the engine off. I bought it w/ 80k on it, and it did it then too. Just a 4.2 balance thing, I reckon.
Even my little 2.9L Ranger V6 does that. Probably just depends on where the pistons are in the compression stroke when you turn it off, and the fact that the V6s in our trucks aren't naturally balanced engines. The only balanced V6 is a 180 degree bank angle, wich would be a flat-six.
You can't diesel with fuel injected engines :-P, once the key is turned off, the fuel stops coming, unless you were burning tons of oil, but if you were burning enough oil to cause dieseling, I think you'd notice it :-P
