I have a 2003 Ford Excursion w/6.0 Turbo PSD w/Bully Dog Triple Pup Programmer. I always have itset on Tow/Economy as it was today. Every now and then I like to give her a little gas off of a red light just remind myself of the power under my hood. Well today I gave her full throttle off the line and she was fne until I let off. The engine temp guage shot up to nearly the red line, and the engine started making a noise like the fan was on full blow (never heard this truck do that). Well I put it in "N" instantly and shut her off cruising done the street. I few moments later I started her back up and continued home. The temp was normal the rest of the way home but the fan noise was still there. I open the hood and there was coolant on the driver's side (on top and underneath). It looks like it might have come from the Resevoir, but I don't know diesels. Any suggestions!!!!! What should I do?
I don't know the answer to your problem, but try a search in this forum for the term "puking". That's what your truck did. You'll have plenty to read about all the things that can cause it. Common issue with this motor.
Biggest problem is prob the tuner! If you are going to run one, the best is probably the SCT with custom Tunes done by Matt at Sparton. Whatever you use I'm sure you are aware that if anything goes wrong with the engine or related parts your warranty is in jeopardy. I understand the Bully Dog leaves a file in the trucks computer and if Ford finds it...bye bye warranty.
Turn the truck on, have someone gradually increase the rpms in park while you listen the noises from the hood, if you hear the degaus bottle whistling, prob the head gaskets. Is there white smoke coming out the tailpipe?
If you are low on coolant, the engine can overheat and your heater will perform poorly.
From your description of the problem you have a coolant loss. This can be caused by a poorly sealing degas tank cap, an EGR cooler leak, a hose or radiator leak or (arrgh!) a head gasket leak. The thermostat would not cause the problem you describe.
If you are under warranty, get it looked at and fixed by your dealer. As BPofMD mentioned it is possible that the tuner contibuted to this problem. The dealer may automatically blame the tuner for any and all problems with your truck.
In any event it is better to get the truck diagnosed and fixed ASAP.
the first thing you should do is remove the bully dog. Your truck has an issue but the tuner is just magnifying it. Like suggested above take a stock truck into the dealer you trust and hopefully they have a 6.0 tech that can take care of your rig.
You can always do a pressure test on the degass bottle to see if it is being pumped up from blown head gaskets. This could cause the over heating also. The thermostat will cause the engine to over heat so I would not rule it out either. Also if the heater is not working it usually means your low on coolant.
I never realized tha we have a $100 deductable on 100 mi motor warranty work! I guess I didn't read the fine when I bought the thing figuring that warranty work was always "free".
Filled the cooleant to the top and took it on a drive to Pizza Hut, no heat and overheated again. When I got home I left it running and opened the hood. The coolant was at the same level(all the way to the top). Turned it off, and listened to the engine. There was a boiling sound coming from the middle of the engine (never heard it before). Checked the coolant then, 15 min later, the an hour later. Same levels as before and no coolant on the ground. WTF????? I'm really lost now. Got a dealership app on Mon.

That boiling sound you hear could be from the EGR cooler. Now I am wondering if the Oil cooler is plugged. Well let us know what you find from the dealer.
Ford dealer said that the water pump isn't flowing and a temp sensor is busted. I thought when the water pump goes out it leaks, I found no leaks neither did they.
