Well as the title indicates, i have been looking into turboing my 400. My plan is to run a mild draw through system for ease and reliability. Im looking to run about 6psi of boost, possible a little more in the future, but i am looking more for a reliable increase in power and not something that is goingt to be tearing parts up all the time. The engine has only about 6 thousand miles on the rebuild, and it was a mild rebuild, with the stock style pistons so the compression ratio is pretty close to stock. it has a mild rv cam and dual plane intake with 600 eldlebrock carb.
My questions are what size turbo should i be looking for, im trying to do this on a budget so if there is a turbo that i could find in the junkyard, that would be great, it doesnt have to be a perfect match, just reasonably close. im looking for something that is going to spool up fast and have good power under 3500 rpm as this motor usually never gets spun any faster then that.
also where is a good place to buy the pluming im going to need to complete this project. such as the carb flanges and intake tubing. Thanks for the help.
Run a later '80's 5.8L EFI setup with Price Motorsports 351W adapter plates. You can find a Garrett TB305 off any just about any Detroit 80's turbo car. Convert it to forced induction - draw through takes too much time and effort.
