Coolant Filter Model

Can you get the Baldwin filter that goes with the dieselsite kit anywhere besides them and what is the filter #.

search baldwin and I think you'll find it. I have searched for it before, but off the top of my head do not know the p/n for base or filters.

If your talking about the coolant filters, they are a Baldwin B5134 and you can find them at many auto parts stores. You can also cross the part to several other manufacturers as well if they don't carry Baldwin.

I've found the Baldwin B5089 to be a great option. Its a little bit shorter, which keeps it off of the A/C hose, and cheaper. I ran the larger B5134 the first couple of filters while the system cleaned out, and now the shorter one works just great to maintain cleanliness.

They are interchangeable according to Baldwin.

I agree. For my truck the shorter filter is more convenient.

As I mentioned on another post I just "replied to", I changed my coolant filter today. My Air Conditioner hose under the filter has a hump in it. This makes it a bit of a pain to get the filter wrench in between the filter and the hose. Posts from a year back or so indicate that many do not have this issue, so I must assume that these AC hoses all get installed a little bit differently. Some hoses actually rub against the filter - mine doesn't but almost does. I am definitely getting the smaller filter since I hopefully have removed most of the grit by now. I suppose that I could also get a filter wrench with a flexible strap, but no need to buy another tool when cheaper filter elements will resolve the issue.

Also - it helps make room for your filter wrench if you make sure the battery is slid over as far towards side of the engine compartment as possible.

I use a small hand compressed wood clamp to pinch the heater hose since I did not install valves. Works great and the coolant loss is minimal. I also get about 1.5 pints of coolant out of the filter when I change it - so I add this back to the degass reservoir.

This was the third filter change and still got A LOT of grit filtered out!

This was (and still is) a great mod !!

If you order one B5089 filter, the shipping will probably kill you (between $7 and $8 for me) wherever you buy them.

Ordering 6 filters, the B5089 can be had for $6.67 each and about $9.50 shipping (for me) at:
http://www.adiesel.com/baldwinfilters/B5089.html
The price above is cheaper than at www.bfwebexpress.com/ by just a little bit since the bfwe unit price is $6.93 and shipping for 6 is about the same at either place.

If you order a case (12 filters), they are MUCH cheaper at $4.85 each and shipping is just under $11.00 at www.bfwebexpress.com/

They used to be $6.53 at www.dieselsite.com but I could not find them now (they sold them some time back). They do sell the B5134.

FYI -

Dieselsite.com (site sponsor) responded to my email. They did not have the B5089 listed on the web site, but they can get it. They will sell 6 of them for $6.90 each. Shipping for me would run around $10.00. This is almost as cheap as anywhere and they are a site sponsor. In their response they advised me NOT to run this filter as the first one, two, or three. Common sense - get most of the sand out and then switch to the smaller, cheaper filter.

I asked today if they give FTE discounts and have not gotten a response yet.
