Installing a turbo
Installing a turbo
how difficult is it to install an ATS turbo on a 92 7.3? I have never tackled a project like this before and the local diesel injection shop quoted around $800 on higher end of the cost to install one.
I came across a guy selling a turbo for $200 minus the air filter part of it but it comes with everything else like the downpipe etc. I think.
I am wondering if I would be getting way over my head to do this, or maybe there is a way I can do some of the work and pay for the stuff I cant do.
thoughts?

Installing a turbo is a job but not super hard but it can be done. You will need to install the new exhaust manifolds, up-pipes, turbo, downpipe, and oil lines. Plus i think relocate the CDR (Behind the 5" intake that acts like a breather valve for crank pressurizing). I am sure that is most of the kit, just take your time and ask a lot of questions on here the guys are really nice and they will help you out every step of the way.
If all else fails you can sell me the kit i have been looking for one for a while : )
Hope it all works out for you,
Adam

The ATS kit doesn't come with manifolds.
Install on the ATS sounds easy enough, except that you'll be dealing with your old crusty manifold hardware (you have to attach a Y-pipe to the passenger manifold, crossover pipe to driver's manifold, etc) You'll probably have to go out and get some new studs & bolts for the kit.
