Compatible engine and trans???
i have a 96 explorer sport 2 door 4.0L. i have a crack in both of my heads so it is not running. i found a guy on the internet selling an engine out of a ranger that was wrecked. It is also a 4.0. It only has 52,000 miles on it. i was wondering could i dop that straight into my explorer or if i would have to do any mods to the trans or anything like that. Someone please provide me with a littlhelp and info.....

What year is the Ranger? Which 4.0 is in the Ranger and in the Explorer? The 4.0 is either a 4.0 SOHC or a 4.0 OHV. 91-94 Explorers is a Gen 1, 95-2000 is a Gen 2. There are differences in the two.
