the mechanic said that the spider gear had come loose and chipped some teeth on the gears.
He said that he would have to replace the whole differential.
Instead of the posi-trak, he reccomended a heavier duty one, the name escapes me right now, but I was wondering if I should leave 4.88 gears or bump it up a notch?
As far as regearing I'm sure you know that you have to have the front diff changed over as well to avoid severe binding in your driveline. If ya only run the 40's once in while I think 4.88's are prolly fine and somewhat of a happy medium between your two tire sizes. If you go too low than your engine will rev too high when you have your 33's on.
I hope the shop showed you the problem cause that will be a fair chunk of change to dole out. Good Luck!!!
