I have found a 1970 Thunderbird in a wrecking yard. Would you guys buy the whole engine or just the heads? I can get the heads for around $30.00 each or the whole engine for around $250.
What do you intend to use it for? Do you have another engine with all the brackets and accessories?
$250 is an excellent price for a '70 429 if it's all there. Early boneyard heads are usually $100/set and the block, if standard bore, $100. I've seen the alloy timing covers sell for $80 on ebay.
if its got a 70' block and heads they should be DOVE parts. id definetly buy both. and if ya do buy both and dont need the block i might be interested.
2V & 4V are the same heads, just different intakes... there were no 460 4 bolt main blocks.. only the 1971 cobra jet block had 4 bolt manis. C.J. .......
Any Thunderbird with a 429 will be a 4 barrel engine. There's no such thing as a 70's Tbird with a 2bbl. That '70 engine is the 360 horsepower Thunderjet, which had 10:1 compression.
but you can find 429's with a 2bbl. i pulled the intake off one about 4 years ago in a junk yard, came off an old station wagon. these are truely a rare find to come across. C.J.

I know you can find 429 2bbls, some school buses had them. My point is that you can't find a Thunderbird with a 429 2bbl, because the 429 and 460 equipped T-birds ALWAYS had the 4bbl motors, in this case the Thunderjet with the high compression heads. In 1970, which is the Thunderbird model year in discussion, the 429 4bbl 360 hp engine was the only available engine.
