New Truck need advice

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 27-Jan-02 AT 04:03 AM (EST)]Ok the deal is I am building a truck ground up. I am using a a 82 frame, and I want to use the newer front clip off of like a 92-97. My question is, I am going to put a 460 in this beast, I want Fuel Injection. Should I round up the parts for the factory setup, should I just use Holley projection, or do you guys have a other idea? I need to decide this so I can round up parts. Sine I am building the truck the price doesn't matter, and since it's a 82 frame I am registering it as smog doesnt matter. Anything 20 years old is considered a clasic So it will be a classic rod with no smog.

BTW I Want to make about 500hp / 500 torque atleast, I was also thingink about a stroker kit

You'll have to go with aftermarket fuel injection since the factory injection with computor is almost impossible to tune for much more than headers and a mild cam...your going to end up about 250 HP short.

Unless.... you go with stock computer controlled speed density setup, then convert to MAF. Check out the Mass Air threads to see what is involved. MAF provides for great response and allows for almost unlimited engine mods, but is pretty complex... Good Luck, and happy hunting!

New Truck need advice

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 29-Jan-02 AT 10:43 PM (EST)]MAF is not hard on the EFI 460's its just a mater of time, i used basically a motorsport 302 Speed density non HO overlay harness computer and mass airmeter caliberated to the 24# hr injectors with great results. With your 82 cab you would be better off ordering the complete stand alone harness which includes the computer and plug in for a MAF meter for an efi motor, swap the injector wires for the correct 302/460 firing order. They make this kit for putting EFI 302's etc into earlier vehicles like yours. Biggest set back and the reason i suggest this is your cab does not allow for the computer to slide into the cab. Therefore you dont have any of the late model computer harness plug ins. Since you are free of that you can mount your computer anywhere and with the free standing harness you will have no problems with shorts or tracing wires. Then hard wire in your gauges. and you are set to go.
Thats just my .02 hope it helps a little. But definately MAF is easy and the most interesting way to go. 500HP might be hard though, not without some deep pockets. KB offers custom pistions for the efi motor and with the MAF any cam is possible. I did some neat head work with mine and i would deffinately recommend that. In the end on a flow bench my heads moved just a hair less than a set of ported CJ heads. We logically estimated the flywheel rating to be
around 300HP not bad with the better pistons and a cam it really could have moved.
