i'm starting a project for my truck. i just bought a brand new block already bored .030 that i have to go pick up, now i need some info on where to go after that. what do i need to get? i am on a limited budget as i'm a college student but i plan to use the money on the engine as i get the money. i've helped a friend build a 302 for his truck but my experience is limited. if anyone is in the rochester, NY area or has some know how in building an engine from scratch, please post on here, email me, or IM me. the.rok@wildmail.com therok6942
Rebuilding an engine and building one from scratch are very similar. Rebuilding one, you have all the parts and go about replacing the bad parts such as pistions & boring, timing chains, bearings, etc. Building one from scratch is all about getting all the parts before hand to do a "re-build". Sometimes it is best to have a donor rngine close at hand to get all the nuts and bolts, plugs, cam thrust washer, fuel pump eccentric, etc since some of the bolts are of a higher strength than others. Haynes & Chilton have some pretty decent info in their books about rebuilding an engine and what to look for and how to check things. Also, there was a hi-po book out and i think it is still published on how to hotrod fords.
Im at RIT (Its not fun) and i have done a partial rebuild of a 429 PI and a complete rebuild of a 289. i know the basics on ford engine building so if you have a question or problem drop me an email and ill see what i can do.
