so im building a flatbed for my truck and am planning on putting daul cb antennas on (dont worry im only hooking one up). any way ive noticed that most of the cb mounts u can buy are all aluminum is there a reason for this. is there any reason y i couldnt just weld tabs on my headache rack to mount the antennas on or will this cause some sort of interferance. thanks for ur help.
nope, most need a ground to work better. also, they make true dual antennas and they are actually pretty cheap. like $50 for a pair. they also improve reception / output
Yes you can weld tabs to mount your whips on. Just remember to use the nylon spacers if supplied. Make sure to drill the holes for the spacers the right size. I've been mounting antennas since 74'. Usually the guys will hook the passenger side antenna, to a scanner and the drivers side to the CB or Ham transciever.
For daul antennas. If you can not get at least 102 inches between the antennas you are just wasting your time. One stand along will out preform a daul co-phase anytime if the are less than 102". I have done many of field test on this.
Now in my opinion, the cab mount antenna is the best thing other than a 102 in stainless whip. http://www.radialllarsen.com/products_mobile_1.shtml
