headlight switch help

I need a switch for a 54 panel that has been converted to 12 volt,can I use a 55 or 56 switch and will it fit the original dash hole.Or any other great ideals?

If you have the original switch that controlled a 6 volt system it will work the 12 volt system. The 6 volt system carries more current than a 12 volt circuitry.
