Hey guys quick question:
What should I do since I only have 1 key to my truck....XGirlfriend thought it would be funny to throw her set of MY keys out the window moments before the dump....
Is it possible to have more than two keys programmed to the ignition chip. I realize the dealer is the only one than can program them; OR are they?
A friend of a friend can get me the blanks with the chip as his pops owns a dealer in town;sad part is he won't cut me any slack on the programming. Any suggestions??
From reading the posts here at FTE, some dealerships will charge close to $200 bucks for PATS key programming. Some charge around $100 bucks.
Like I posted though, when you get your second key, buy some spares off of ebay (I must have at least three spare PATS keys in addition to the original two, for each of my vehicles), have them cut, then program them yourself.
Here are the instructions for programming spare PATS keys.
Note: You must have two already programmed PATS keys in order to program subsequent keys.
Programming a PATS key:
1. Place first already programmed key in the keyway. Turn the ignition from OFF to ON (RUN) without starting the vehicle, for at least 1 second and then switch to OFF.
2. Within 5 seconds, insert your second already programmed key in the keyway. Turn the ignition from OFF to ON (RUN) without starting it, for at least 1 second and then switch to OFF.
3. Within 10 seconds of turning the ignition lock cylinder to OFF, insert the new key into the keyway. Turn the ignition from OFF to ON (RUN) without starting it, for at least 1 second and then switch to OFF.
The theft indicator light should go on for three seconds, after which the key will start the vehicle. Repeat this process, from the beginning, for each new key to be programmed.
This was from a different section of the site but i believe that this might help. I know that it did for a buddy of mine.

Only problem is that I only have 1 key..... The other original was thrown out the window into the ocean!!! (i was on a causeway between South Padre and Port Isabel)
If you have a local flea market, maybe a key maker there will ahve the prgramming device. I only had one key to my F150 when I bought it... used. I went to the local flea market and the guy there had a device hooked to his computer that he used to program the new key...cost about 60 bucks, and works great!
If you have only one key you have to take the truck to the dealer do get another key programmed. What they will do is take your original key and wipe out the information on it. Then they have to reprogram the computer with a new code. Then they will take your original key, a new key, and program the new code on them.
It is a theft feature so that somebody can't just take one of your keys and make a copy. Once you get two keys you can buy some new ones from eBay, take them to someone with a key cutting machine, and then you can program them yourself with the instructions above. If you bought the truck from a dealer most of the time they will help you out with a new key. I had to take mine to get a new one and they did it for free.
insist on 3 keys next time you make a deal on a new truck (dealer will do it for free).
Went thru all of the above bs on my old truck & learned a good lesson! Enjoy.
Dude...never dump a girl in a moving car. You should either be in the center of a large open field with none of your personal belongings within a 1 mile radius or do it via email or voice mail.
As for the key, I agree with the others. The dealer is pretty much your only option. Good Luck

I didnt do it she did...but thanks for all your help guys...as for 05EDGE...what if the guy liked the inside of your truck and saved the pin of your key???
Wait! Don't go to the dealer! I had the same issue ( not the same girlfriend!) with my truck when I bought it - just one key. I found an Internet source, Street Keys was the name. You buy the blanks from them. They send them to you in the mail. You also buy the coding service - you pay them and they mail you the name of a local locksmith who can do the coding. You can purchase the service where you go to the locksmith, or for a slightly higher fee he'll come to you. When the blanks arrive by priority mail you simply call the name of the locksmith provided and make an appointment.
I got two new blanks and had them coded for just under $100. BOTH the dealer and the local locksmith said had I gone direct to them I'd have paid that much for just one key! I saved money AND now have 3 coded keys.
And if you need remote entry key fobs there is a link to a sister company of theirs where you can buy them too. Great service from both.
