I have a 8.8 out of a 92 Explorer, 3.73 open rear, drum brakes. I would have rather had a trac-loc rear, but I bought the whole Explorer for $250 and got $120 out of it for salvage when I was done with it.
I thought the Explorer when to IRS in 2002?? My 03 was, but it was a V6. Just wondering...
I used the rear end out of my T-bar suspension donor, an 87 Chrysler 5th Avenue, and the Chrysler rear springs. I was worried at first about the shift points and take off with such an extremely tall ratio (2:26) but so far I like it. The TH350 shifts into third around 30 MPH on light throttle. It's a great cruiser rear and held up fine for 115K miles behind a 318 V8 before I got it..

What needs to be done on this swap? Relocate spring perches?
Charlie do you at least have the matching front suspension?
Yes I do...it's off a 92 Corvette ZR1 and is fully polished like the IRS. I am using Don McNeil's (Flat-Out Engineering) mounting kits for both the front and the rear. That pic of the IRS is old, I should have some newer ones in my gallery soon. I am running ShockWaves front and rear and right now I am in the process of nothcing the outside of the frame rails in the rear to get the clearance I need. Nothing is ever easy!

How did you get it to the salvage yard after you removed the rear? I've got an '83 Trans Am with posi and disk rear end. I'd like to use that for a swap but I don't know how I'd get the hulk to a salavger without the rear wheels...
Thanks,
Robert

Tell them to send a tilt flatbed wrecker. They'll just drag the carcass onto the truck. May not be too good for your driveway.
CharlieLed; That's a nice rear set up you got there. I like the polished look. Got any pics of the IFS? I'd like to see what it looks like to.
Rusty, there's a few pics in my gallery "56 F100 BW" showing the frame with the C4 crossmember installed. Here's a pic of the suspension that I am using on that crossmember...the chassis in the pic is from my 50 Merc, I grafted a ZR1 front clip onto the Merc frame but changed my mind when the 56 F100 project came along.
