Thanks! So the crash sensor always needs to be replaced? How about the one for the passenger side, is it okay since that side was deactivated by the dash switch?

I've never indexed the wheel pulling it off. If your steering wheel is straight now, then just make sure you have the steering wheel and tires straight ahead before you pull it off. When you put it back on, just put the steering wheel back on straight.

I usually drive forward a few feet making sure the tires are straight instead of trying to straighten things up while parked to make sure there's no pressure in the steering components that might try and push the wheels one way, but that's just me.

From what I read, the crash sensor has to be replaced in case of deployment. Since the passenger bad did not deploy, that one should be fine.

I always mark the shaft to wheel to get it back straight. I have never seen one w/o the mark but I always use a marker to highlight it so the dummy working on it won't forget. I have never put one on incorrect.

In case it isn't obvious from the pics the cruise buttons just slide out towards where the horns used to be. I found this link about repairing the buttons and thought I would include it here.

Yes, it has a master spline for replacement alignment.

It will only go back on one way.

No videos. I don't have an account to post them.

By locking plunger, do you mean the cylinder for the key, or the long bar with gears on the bottom that activates the whole thing as you turn the key. I got to replace the long bar with the teeth that is what the key turns on my wife's truck. I'll have to see what pictures I have of that if that's what you're looking for.

It's time consuming but not that hard to do. I don't have the pics in this computer. I'll have to look through some back ups and see if I can find some photos.

I used to have these photos uploaded to my user gallery, but they decided to get rid of those and all the photos stored in them along with it. They've now moved on to albums or some such, but what's the point if that will change too without migrating all the old photos.

So you know how to get the steering wheel off, do you know how to remove the steering column cover? It's just 3 phillips screws in 3 of the 4 holes in the bottom side of the cover. Stick a screwdriver in there and you can remove them by feel. The bottom and top half of the cover separate and come off. To remove the key cylinder, there's a detent button (silver bb looking thing inside a hole) under the key cylinder. Stick the key in the ignition and turn to run, push the bb button, and pull the ignition cylinder out.

Then take things apart from there to get to that gear piece. I'll look for pictures and see what I can find.

Ok, thanks for the info and yes I know how to get the covers off and the tumbler/ keys assembly out. I will work on it and let you know how it goes
