I just bought a '66 Ford pickup with an '68 Thunderbird 390 and an FMX. The transmission had just been overhauled about eight months ago. The other day I started it and put it in reverse to back away from a building and low and behold I went forward.LOL I put it in park and it acts like it is in second but is locked in park. I put it in drive one and it backs up and put it in low and it goes forward.LOL I have seen some crazy things in my sixty nine years with vehicles but nothing like this. I am sure it is a problem inside the transmission and I will have to pull the pan but am hoping some one can tell me what to look for. I know next to nothing about automatics. I do hop up engines and work on most all standards.I called the person that overhauled the transmission and he said he thought the linkage had been messed with, and if the truth was really kown I think he knows about as much about FMX as I do.LOL He is about 290 miles away. Thanks
Tom
I agree the linkage is messed up. You can click on the Forums tab at the upper left and look over the boards. The transmission board would be a good one to stop by. Also stop in your local chapter and see what they are up to: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum92/
Hi Tom, congrats on the sweet ride, for sure a '66 Ford pickup with a Thunderbird 390 would be a very nice toy.
For help repost this in the Clutch,Transmission, Differential, Axle and Transfer Case forum: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum69/
Be sure to do your intro in the OK chapter too: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum92/
Who knows, the man across the street from you maybe a helpful FTE member....
