ya well i needed a windshield so i called up safelite (they were the cheapest) and they came today took the window out and low and behold the metal part that the window is attatched to is all rotted out and they wont put it in they didnt charge me so i was happy but they wont put one in until its fixed now should i fix it? do they make parts for it? its the whole upper strip and on the sides by the door posts? would it be worth it?
I called safelite a couple weeks ago and thought I had it all set up and then the guy asked me what condition of the truck was in. I said it's being fixed up and will be "semi-show" condition. Then he told me that the techs wouldn't work on it, too good of condition and don't want to be responsible for damage. HMMMMM......They are supposed to be trained professionals and will work on $40000 trucks, but not a good ol truck. Also, all they have to do is put it in, it's already out. Maybe I'll just call them back, and say the truck will be a daily driver. Their price was very reasonable.
Those areas of your cab are going to be hard to fix. If you can get a different cab may be your best bet.
I'm not sure if your looking for opinions on the co. and the winshield or the problem of fixing your rust.I'd go right up the managerial food chain of that company by threating to sue them for taking your tansportation away, lost wages and damages to your interior in small claims court for the max.Until you get one put back in.There supposed to be pro's they should of known after they got started not to take that winshield out in the 1st place. Then leave you hanging. That's CRAP.As to the rust issue the places I fear the most is around the frt or rear slider glass.Or the drip rail.If you have the money I'd have a pro fix it with a warranty in writing.GOOD LUCK
I fixed mine after looking for replacement parts could not find any parts. What i done is found a good inside panel cut it out and welded it in then whent to the outside and cut all the rust out (Take measurements before cutting)then took house foam insalation and filled the gap once dry i cut shaped and sanded the foam untill it was shaped back to original then took fiberglass cloth and put over the foam then i sanded that then body work and paint. This turned out very well but was time consuming.Im going to post pic in my gallery of finished job.
