I pulled a 429 out of a 68 thunder bird to go in my truck.
now that i hahe it clean on a engine stand,I pulled a valve
cover and found screw in studs @ adjustible rockers.
the heads are C9VE. Did sone of the early heads come with
adjustible valve train?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-Feb-02 AT 02:24 PM (EST)]Most had screw-in studs with 'rail' rockers, but they were the 'positive stop' studs, i.e., non adjustable. To really make them truely adjustable, the stud boss needs to be milled the amount/thickness of the guide plate and then install guide plates with new studs along with a rockers off of something like the B302/B351/429CJ/SCJ or rollers. And don't forget the hardened push rods for the guide plates.
They look like rail rockers (as i have them on my 66 289 heads)
Corect me if im wrong,BUT rail rockers do not need guid plates
as the ones on the early 289 are adjustable from the factory
with press in studs and crimp nuts.
From the information i have though all 429 came none ajustable
acept for the DOVE SCJ heads.
But now i have C9VE heads that are adjustable with screw in studs?
