Hello this is my first post and need some advice. Will be going with a new F350 SRW V10 4x4 long bed. The truck will be used to carry a large camper. The truck will have the Ford camper package. But not sure is it worth going with the FX4 over the XLT. The FX4 comes with Rancho's I believe and 4x4 package.
Yeah, going to the FX4 is mainly stufff or looks. But you get all weather mats and a "Advanced Security Group"
So if you want a better looking truck and you're willing to dropthe bucks, go with an FX4, but if you just want something to move you around, go get an XLT.

Okay, but using that logic you might as well just get an XL. But in the XLT trim, I personally think the tires and skid plates alone make the FX4 worth the money. In fact, it is sad that you cannot add the FX4 package to the Lariat trim.
As the original poster stated a "new" F-350, everyone should keep in mind that the the trim levels go: XL -> XLT -> FX4 -> Lariat -> Harley/King Ranch in the new Super Duties (2008+ model year).
To that end, the FX4 trim level includes (per the 2008 Order Guide):
(All XLT content, plus)
Powertrain/Function
Drivetrain – 4x4 only
Rear axle – limited slip
Shocks – Rancho branded
Skid plates – transfer case and fuel tank
Transfer case – Manual
Exterior
Bumpers – front & rear, Dark Shadow Grey
Fog Lamps
Grille – body color billet-style surround w/medium platinum insert
Now the real question is whether or not the $7,835 (MSRP) in extra features included with the FX4 trim is worth it. (Ford's website lists the baseline XLT at $27,390, and a baseline FX4 at $35,225.)
Well, it all depends on how much of the stuff in the FX4 one would want. You can probably add most if not all of that on a custom build from the XLT, so it would depend on how many of the options you add to the point that it becomes cheaper to just get the FX4.

Good post. However regarding the upgrade cost, I believe that includes the 4x4 drivetrain. It would be better to compare XLT 4x4 to an FX4 4x4 for a true upgrade cost.
Continuing on that thought, I checked the Ford web site. Not only does the FX4 price include 4x4 drivetrain, it is only available in an SC or CC model, while the XLT price you gave is 4x2 regular cab.
So, XLT 4x4, Supercab = $33,790
While FX4 4x4 Supercab = $35,410
Excellent point, Bill. I took that for granted, and really should have spelled it out.
To the original poster, I would say that the FX4 trim level is basically an appearance package combined with the 4x4 Off Road (17X) option package. See if you can find any FX4 Super Duty at a local Ford dealership, and see whether or not you like the bumper, grill, door handles, and interior appearance. If not, maybe you could go with an XLT with the 4x4 Off Road package (17X) to get into the same ballpark without the additional appearance items included in the FX4 trim.
Incidentally, the Advanced Security Group (60F) is an available option on the XLT. So that narrows the gap that much more.
bpounds, is that sticker price or dealer cost? I don't recall that big of a difference.
Anyway, I vote for FX4 Lariat.
Those were MSRP from the fordvehicles.com web site using the Build It option.
For $1,610 (negotiated price will be less) you get advanced security group, securilock, premimum wheels, LS axle, fogs, skid plates - well more stuff too, but those are the important ones to me. I call that good value.
Well alot to think of, thanks to all for input. When the truck comes in will let all know which way I went. The XLT with options or the FX4. I usually go for use over looks.
I thought the FX4 package took the place of the old Off Road package? And with the KR package I have body color door handles but a chrome grill. I guess this is just KR specific? It also has the FX4 package. Also I vote FX4 but I'm a little jaded
