Trans temp / cooler bypass valve
I figured it was the cooler bypass valve and called a dealer to check on the price. It's $86 including the washer kit, and he states he has never ordered one am I positive I need it. My thoughts are I know the temp since I have an aftermarket gauge, the factory gauge still reads "normal" so the average driver wouldn't know there is a problem until the tranny melts.
Am I going down the right path by replacing the valve? It's cold outside, is it a quick in the driveway kind of job or should I have someone install it for me?
Thanks,
Rich
If it is bypassing the coolers it's probably because one or both of the coolers are plugged. Does either cooler line get hot when the trans is at 180-190? If so, then the bypass is not bypassing. If both lines are cold and the trans is hot, then it is bypassing. The question then would be why.
