Some whine, some dont, that is no indicator...
Roll her on her back, rub her belly and maybe she will cough up the pump like a fur ball...
But yes, dropping the tank is the prefered method...

Straight forward,
Drain fuel if full, heavy....
disconnect battery
drop the skid plate (4 bolts)
support tank
unbolt Tank straps, (1 Bolt each)
lower tank gently
disconnect filler hose
disconnect wire harness @ tank
disconnect fuel lines @ tank (fuel line disconnect tool required)
remove tank
clean top of tank, meticuliously (grit and road grime falling into tank will eat new pump in short order)
counter clockwise, remove fuel pump retainer ring.
Remove pump......
Install in reverse order......
Good luck, take care, dont smoke.......

Are you sure the fuel pump is bad? Normally it either works or it doesn't. Have you changed the fuel filter?
