So, not wanting to beat a dead horse...but I'm having some rear end vibration and found a u-joint on it's way to the afterlife. I knew the rear end had been swapped out, so I sprayed and scraped the tag hoping to ID it. Yhere were two lines of text stamped into it.
The upper one read " S318d "( ok so there were some spaces but my wife was making notes for me and scrunched them together ) The lower line read
" 3 50 9 5K01 "
What I'm really looking for at the moment is what rear end it is. The auto parts store lists 2 different U-Joints ( one being for the 8.8" and the other being for the 9", with one being slightly larger than the other ) Also, it was my understanding that the 9" had a removable 3rd member and the 8.8 had an inspection cover.

Is this an open 9" rear end with a 3.50:1 ratio ?
Do the other numbers mean anything ?
Thanks !

Like the others have said, that tag says it's a Ford 9", 3.50:1 open gears ( no factory L/S). The other numbers are build date and BOM numbers (bill of material), used when you need to order parts like gears or axle, bearings, etc. JSM84
