Do any of you guys wheel a super cab long box, I'm looking for a good rusty dent side to wheel and am only finding supercab long boxes, it looks like alot of truck to have off the road. I noticed that the half ton ones were leaf sprung in the front, could I just add-a-leaf it? I figure i'm going to need at least a little lift to get it up and down hills without dragging every thing. The one I really have my eye on is a 79 with a 351, c6 and 4x4 for $600 the cab is quite solid, box is shot.
Oh ya, whatever I get will have 33''x13.5'' super swamper LTB's
I have wheeled for along time in a Supercab longbed. It can get tight in places. I have high centered on the axles but never on anything in between the axles. I find that I sink easier in the mud than others, but that also means I find solid ground faster. If you dont care about the body, then wheel it hard and you will be fine.
I've got a 78 Sc, but I wheel a 69 Bronco. I'll throw my 2cents in stating it depends on where you wheel. If you need a short turning radius, the Supercab is a bear, especially compared to my EB.
What type of trails are you going to do? I run a reg cab long bed. The turning radius matches a school bus.
Based on my limited experience, I think the SC would be fine in the mud bogs, just set your forward axle ratio up so that it pulls. (not suited for anything else but mud) Use smaller tires up front and change them for street use if you don't want to change your ring and pinion gears.
The SC would be almost impossible on the more serious technical trails in Moab. Keep in mind, the JEEPERS didn't think I could fit! The longer trails like White Rim and anything in Big Bend would be a piece of cake for you.
All of us who run full size rigs have to be prepared to do 6 or 9 pt turns on switchbacks and rub stuff the jeeps slide through. Good luck with search.
I have decided that a sc lb is way to long for my purposes, I think I got my hands on a regular cab lb I'm going to pick it up this weekend if all goes well
I think you will be happy with that decision. Even the regular cab will be a commitment, however, you will really enjoy fitting that puppy where the Jeepers say it won't go!
May the weekend work out the way you hope. Best of luck!
