D3VE's vs. C8-D0VE's assuming equal CR?

Ok guys, I was planning on throwing a set of earlier heads on my 429 but was just thinking that if im going to get some quality forged pistons down the road...why not just get them now, and get flat-tops that would give me the same compression ratio as the early heads. then i could keep the heads i have now and save money. aside from bringing up the CR and being roller rocker ready, do the earlier heads have any advantages? are port configurations the same and will they both allow for equal amounts of porting? how about chamber design? all being equal, will one be more efficient than the other? thanks for any input.

Lots of good useful info on this site and guys that can answer your questions. But, they will tell you the D3's are junk and to go with the C8-D0VE heads.
