Hello Everybody!
I have a1986 ford f-150 302v8. While driving home from work on the freeway I noticed it was not accelerating like it use to0. This morning i got up to go to work and it had no power and almost left me stranded it only goes about 5 miles an hour and wants to die and hardly starts. The rpm gauge does not raise like its a tranny issue. I have not even cracked the hood yet Where would be a good place to start?
Thanks
Mg Oh by the way its the EFI

I first would suspect the fuel filter. Also, you may have water in the fuel, and if it's been really cold where you live, it may be freezing and restricting the fuel system. If it runs better after the weather warms up, go buy a alcohol based fuel system treatment. It will pick up the water and send it through to the engine. Otherwise it just sits in the bottom of the tank and causes problems.
I am in porltand its cold We are in a cold snap! It seems to get worse as it heats up! At first start it is ok then when it gets warm it bogs down bad. Ill check what you suggested
Either the fuel as noted above or one or both of the Cats has let go. Also on the filter, if you have dual tanks there are two filters on that truck, one on the rail at the boost pump and one inside the switchover valve.
A clogged catalytic convertor usually does not cause hard starting. The next thing to do is pull the codes and see if you have any. Here's a site that tells you how to do it with a testlight or voltmeter. www.fordfuelinjection.com
Is your truck Fuel Injected or carburetor? If it's Fuel Injection I would Check the IAC. The Parts store will sell you a new one but if it's not too bad you can clean it with Throttlebody cleaner and a new gasket.
