Lava Could Swallow My Truck!!

I went to Ruidoso, NM this past weekend to spend some time w/ an old college GF who lives in Houston. She owns a cabin in Ruidoso, which is a mountain town with a nice ski area. It was 200 mi each way, much of it through open desert and mountains. I thought I'd share some cool pics for those of you who don't get down here very often. The lava pics were taken on Hiway 380 west of Carizozo, NM near the Valley Of Fires park. There was a lot of lava flowing in the area a long time ago. The "vanishing point" pic was taken about halfway between Carizozo and San Antonio, NM. I drove 80 most of the way and got about 17/18mpg. I had right foot problems.

yea that last pic looks great... looks like the kind of place you would just happen to break down, and not get cell phone reception... then on top of that get beat to death by some mutant inbread guy who lives underground.... (well maybe not the last part)

You're welcome Cody. I've been on that road you mentioned too. Wide open spaces out here are great. We had a great time but due to the distance I don't think anything permanent will happen with her. But if I ever go to Crosby (east of Houston) to visit the girl, I'll bring the truck and stop by DRD. No plans to do it now but you never know.

Awesome pic of the lava in the Cascades, Joe!!

Love the pics. I never thought I'd say this but sometimes I get tired of looking at the corn. lol. I've never been to that part of the country. Looks quite interesting. Thanks for sharing.
