I couldnt believe it, what a moron. I was standing outside in a parking lot staring at a F350 crewcab superduty that some idiot had lifted about 8 inches, whith 40 something inch tires. He had just put blocks under the springs, front and back, on top of the factory blocks. Shocks were nonexistant front and back. Rear driveline angle looked a little off.
I was still standing there, looking when the owner walked up wondering what i was doing. He seemed quite proud of his work, and was very willing to elaborate.
He said mater of factly that the shocks wouldnt reach after the lift, so he took them off, didnt think he needed them anyway. When i asked about the rear driveshaft angle, he just looked at me with a blank stare. He also stated that he had trouble finding U bolts long enough, so he just made some by welding threaded bolts to the ends of his existing U bolts. No brake modifications were made either.
I started explaining how shocks were needed to keep all 4 tires on the ground, and the concept of bump steer and the likes. He immediately got mad and told me off.
People like this make it tough on everyone else who modifies their rigs. He is the reason that many states require inspections of lifted vehicles, and that many more should. How do people like this live this long ill never know.

To me, this is the worst part. While the other modifications are dangerous enough, welding extensions on U-bolts takes it to a whole new level - especially when those U-bolts are under enormous stress because of the added lift blocks. This man should have his Superduty taken away and be forced to drive a Chevette for the rest of his life.
I think we may be looking at a future candidate for the Darwin Awards...I just hope that he doesn't take anyone else down with him.
People don't like a)having their shortcomings pointed out to them or b)being told they are or have done something wrong. Hence his anger with/at you. Nothing personal, just someone who took a shortcut to achieve his ends.
In the meantime, can you imagine what a kidney buster that thing is to ride in? Mine is bad enough WITH the factory springs and shocks!!
That's bad news. How old was this guy? Sounds like he didn't do his homework. First off you don't put lifting block on the front end that has lelf springs. Plus if he needed longer u-bolts he could has contacted a spring shop. No shocks...........I don't get it.

I'm surprised he can even drive the truck without shocks. I took jsut the rear ones off to replace them and jumped on the back and man what a difference.

Hey i hit my head the other day offroading lol, got rug burn on my forehead. I hit a pot hole doin about 35 without my seat belt....dumb idea not wearing a seat belt
I don't want to see what will happen if that driveshaft breaks and gets sent into the car next to him, I'll be on the lookout for a jacked up bouncy super-duty. Moron.
