Assembling my 460 for 4X4 conversion & noticed huge hole rotted
away in timing cover. Is there any aftermarket suppliers of timing covers?? Trying to save a buck or two. Anybody have one used??Thanx u all.
ive had one do the same thing. was yours sitting for any length of time with coolant in it? mine had been sitting for a LONG time and as the anti-freeze "decomposed", it corroded the timing cover. i cleaned it up and ran it but got on it hard a few days later and shot a chunk of it right off. it was messy to say the least. anyway, i had two complete engines when that happened and am now short a timing cover, so id be interested in any cheap aftermarket stuff too.
Ya....this motor sat in a 1-ton van for a long time.Disolved a hole
between the water port & cavity behind water pump. Ford quoted me $176.00 for new cover.Need a cover with pump mount.Don't need dip stick hole.
I just received the new PAW catalog and they show an aftermarket cover with out the dipstick hole. I believe it is listed for $75.00, but I don't have the book here at work with me.
I could have used one for my 460 about a month ago, their old catalog did not show them, so I spent several hours in a local junkyard tearing off the front of a motor to get that cover.
Anyway I hope that helps, they have a website: www.pawengineparts.com
The cover lists for $79.95 on page 678. It has dipstick tube, fuel pump block off plate and gasket and oil pan mounting studs. replaces OEM#E5TZ-6019-K. PAW part#PIO-500460
I got my brand new one from my local Ford dealer for $114.00. The nice thing is that the new ones are reworked so the crank seal goes in from the outside now. No more ripping the front of the motor down for a simple crank seal leak.
