Alright i'm goin to explain best i can. First off i previously had a driveline vibration from bad u-joint. About a year ago my transmission suddensly started up-shifting hard like it was slamming into gear making the truck jump foreward (its a shudder). I fixed it with a fluid filter change and it went away for a while. Now here is the problem i have been dealing with for several months. When the truck breaks highways speeds about 65 the shudder comes back now if i stay under for a week or so over the week the shudder will go away and shift smooth eventually, until i break highway speeds again. Also once i fixed the u-joint i realized there was a seperate vibe i believe from the trans around 65 up to near 70. Before i left to go back to school from winter break 4 hours on highways 66 and 81 at atleast 65mph whole way it was shifting smooth. i stopped half way and no rough shift but did have the vibration. I broke 80 durring the 2nd half of the trip (down hill trying to keep it down but it was late i wasnt watchin speed for a sec) and the rough shift came back. Fluid/filter change seems to do about same as just driving as is for week under highway speed. no metal shards in tranny. deep pan and cooler on it. good fluid and quick tranny fix are in it just for a try. seems to be in great condition internally has 135,000 miles but was not used hard by previous owner. trailered race car once a year from VA to NY or so on 95 and light runs to home depot. ANY ideas would be nice i am just living with it now.
hey we gotta love those computers!!!speed sensor or anything else will throw it off-got a 95 ford e 250 -instrument cluster was bad-new e 4od was crazy-was doing 75 on highway-went to 2nd gear-what a mind screw???took me 2 weeks to figure it out-1st one in this area-just my luck!!! go figure!!
yeah im pretty sure its a e40d i guess it could be just didnt think it was computer because of how it comes then slowly loosens up and it feels like its shifting at the right times just makes truck lurch like theres a clutch that should engage softer or something. im not good with transmissions. where is tps and speed sensors located? and any guess on cost?
Ford torque converters have issues with shudders. "Breakdown of the friction modifier in the fluid often results in "converter shudder" (feels like driving over rumble strips) where converter tries to lock up, but slips." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_AOD_transmission
naw its not like a slipping where teeth arent meshing its just when theres an upshift it makes truck jump foreward can be a pretty heavy lurch at full throttle it runs through gears pretty smooth sometimes if it revs up then you let off just as it shifts it can really kick foreward. i get the common half realase of the ford torque convertors where on light accel sometimes the revs drop a little as it fully engages the motor and trans after a shift
Your TPS should be on your throttle body just off the intake. If it is like the I300 it has 2 screws on it and a wiring harness connector. Why the F do they put screws on it, I don't know. If you change it be sure and use a stubby on it so you don't strip it.
