The front cat is the two into one at the "Y". I was replacing the muffler on my 92 a few weeks ago and it seems the rear cat can be cut out and replaced without much problem. My rear cat was plugged up after the vehicle sitting for a couple years. I didn't have anything to replace it with at the time, so I hollowed it out with a hammer and bar. I think I'll go back under there and see if I can replace the front cat with a Y pipe and either go with a hi flow for the back or no cat. No emissions check here.
You could probably drop the back cat and replace it with pipe. You'd still have the front. Use clamps and yo0u could go back with a cat for inspection time.
Im in NJ also, I just keep my old cat for when I go to DMV. I run no cat for 2 years, then on the day I put it on. Bassani is the only 1 that I have found that makes a Y pipe for our trucks. Its only for the Bronco/F150, 5.0 or 5.8. But im sure it could fit a F250/F350 with a little mod. As the factory F350 is a true dual Y pipe vs the 2 into 1 Y pipe on the others. If there is some pipe before the bad cat, just cut it off and replace with aftermarket peice.
