When I start my 99 7.3 in the cold, it starts fine. then when the engine revs up for the warm up cycle it starts to kinda rev then hesitate. it kinda seems like the wastegate is opening or something but it is a consistent rev then slow down. Even the first few miles I drive it does this. today I looked at the turbo while it was doing this. I could just barely see under the exhaust side (passenger) something moving up and down as it was doing this. I dont know what it is. I cant seem to find a good picture to show me. can anybody help
This will help you a lot with checking & cleaning the tube and sensor. Be sure to check the fitting on the exhaust manifold as it says, and be careful when probing into the sensor itself. I done mine by these instructions for the first time and it wasn't hard at all. The hardest part was clearing the tube with a weedeater string and not using it on a drill. The brake cleaner works like a champ to loosen it all up. GOOD LUCK! Hope this helps!
BE SURE TO POST BACK AND LET US ALL KNOW HOW IT WENT, AND IF IT FIXED THE PROBLEM! THANKS!
I guess every truck is different depending on the use, driving habits, tunes etc. Mine is completely stock and had 69k on it when I bought it. I cleaned it at approx. 141k and it was almost, if not completely, stopped up. I don't know if the previous owner ever cleaned it or not, but I doubt it. It's probably a good time to check yours, then you'll know for sure. I've seen some guys on here that say they do it as routine maintenance at 15k intervals or so. Maybe someone else will chime in with different, or better, advice. Good luck!
Thanks for the info. I probably should check it anyways, right now is a good time anyways. Truck is standing on three legs, (transmission is in the process of getting rebuilt)
I went to clean my EVBP tube and it was totally clogged and rusted though, I had 200K on the truck and it had never been cleaned. I replaced the sensor too.
yeah i cleaned mine. it didnt solve the problem with it warming up the way it does so I just tried and unplugged the sensor and that fixed the problem. so i ordered a new sensor. thanks for the help
