Truck rev

Hey guys. Well when I turn on my 91 f150 it revs up to like 2000rpms and then goes back down. But if I drive it and then do something and then turn it back on it seems to rev up higher to 3000 and comes down slower. Any one know why? Or is it normal? My dad told I have to figure that out.

I would start by checking for vac. leaks . And check / clean the Idle Control Solenoid . If you could ck codes , that would be good also .
