Rebuilding Engine
My truck is a '97 F-150 single cab, 4x2, 4.2L V6. I am only using this truck for fun, no dragging of course, but I would like some added HP and/or torque. I have a budget of roughly $5K. I really do not know a whole lot about engines, but I have friends who are going to help. What would you do?
Rudyard3
spend $1500 to 2k on the engine rebuild,
sell the (V6) truck and put all the $$ towards the dream truck.
No matter what you do to the V6, you still have the V6. Nitrous, Cammed, Bored even Turboed you will easily develop more then the lightweight truck can handle for traction/stability. Plus anyone will tell you, once you start playing under the hood the project mechanics soon become the requirement.
If this is a toy and you enjoy spending your weekends with tools in your hands, go for it!
If this is something you want to drive daily consider getting it up and running for the purpose of obtaining a good selling value and get the truck you really want.
