Question should i..

had a 95 f150 with the ole 302 for forever now have a small saturn i drive daily which i hate. Considering buying a 01 f250 crew or super 2wd with the 7.3. I considered the 4x4 but from everything i know and hear the 2wd rides a little more smooth for daily driving and saves a few pennies on fuel. I do haul my boats and trailors and am probably going to finally and sadly sell the f150 too. I guess what im asking is for daily driving is the 7.3 going to be a good option for me when im not pulling? thanks!

Welcome to the FTE .

I drive my 7.3 daily in the cold months (ride my Harley the rest) and love driving it. I don't haul anything with mine not trailer wise anyway. It really will depend on you and whether you like driving the truck all the time. There are lots of people on here that drive theirs daily as well and like doing so. What are your main concerns about driving it daily? Also the 99 - 03 7.3 part of this site would give you more info on the truck. here is the link.

well mostly i got the saturn to drive daily save on gas.. then i realised i hate not driving a truck so the saturn sits int he driveway most days anyways lol i guess my main concern is just how practical its giong to be, obviously diesels are generally more dependable but i also know some of then guzzzzzzzle some diesel which is why im hoping the 2wd option might bump it up... a little

A lot has to do with your driving habits, how the truck is equipped, what kind of mods you may or may not want to do, what part of the country you live in, and how long your drive to work is.

Sounds like your looking for something with a 3.73 rear end. You'll want to keep the RPM's under 2000 for fuel economy. A diesel isn't efficient until your up to full operating temps, so a bunch of short commutes hurt mileage.

I live in the flat lands, do a lot of driving, and have a stick shift. I average 19.85 when not towing.

Yes the 2wd will help with fuel mileage and it will also depend on the gearing of the truck most are 3.73. I get about 17 to 19 in my truck of course it also depends on how you drive it as well some days I don't get very good mileage but that is do to a heavy foot. Keeping the rpm's below 2000 realy helps too.
Here is another good link it has some very helpful info on it most can be found here but it has been put on this link for faster look up.
