Hey guys, I have a 2005 SD V-10 I was going to start using Mobil-1 Synthetic oil in it, right now Im using motorcraft synthetic blend.
Thanks ~Gage~
Would it be better if I use full synthetic? Longer engine life?
in my opinion on most cases sythetic oil is only better for the extended oil change intervals. motorcraft synthetic blend is great oil and it will give you long engine life. look at all these older fords (well just about any maker) they have over 200K and all they ran is just regular old dino oil, so
synthetic is a better product... yes
is it worth the extra money... not really unless you want a longer oil changing interval but engine life is equal among most oils.
walmart for example is 2.42 a quart of motorcraft and they are close to 5-6 bucks for a quart of Mobil 1
just my two cents and I would bet alot of people will differ on this topic

The motorcraft oil is great, but i use Mobile one.
I use the Mobile one extended performance synthetic because it has more additives.
The extended performance is good for 15,000 miles and only cost like 80cents more.
i still change it every 4-5 thousand because i am REALLY **** about my truck.
I have used royal purple in the past with great results, but i saw some specs that showed Moblie one to be a little bit better all around, so I use M1 now.
Well if I use Mobil-1 synthetic I would still change my oil every 3 months,
I know it might be a waste of money. Do you guys still use motorcraft oil filter?

for alwe kow motorcraft oil may be made by modil? how many out there really know why one oil is better than another? i do know that synthetic oil is hands down the best for any engine.
The way this was explained to me by an engineer at Dana a couple of years ago:
-Motor oil is naturally occuring oil with normal sized molecules. Natural oil molecules sometimes have reoccuring hydrocarbon chains within the molecule. Because it is naturally occuring the molecules range in size from somewhat small to very large. He said the likelyhood of a molecule to be the smallest necessary is almost nil, because of nature's tendency towards chaos.
-Synthetic motor oil is designed in a lab to be the most efficient molecule of hydrocarbon with the least amount of hydrocarbons to produce a stable molecule, so the molecule is consistently smaller.
What does this mean? Smaller molecules get into smaller spaces, and lubricate more.
Same guy recommended synthetic blend as the best combo because it is the hybrid of the price advantage from regular, and the efficiency of synthetic.
I have used synth blend on the truck, and the buick, and I use full synth in my Fiero... I know I know... yes I said I own a Fiero, and I put synth in it.
