72' 429
My son found a running 72' 429 with 48k (supposedly) the guy wants $500 for it,,he said it has a 4 barrel carb on it,,and is in a T-bird,,,is this worth it ??
And what should we know about this engine ? thanks,,,,Mark

little high IMO, the 72 429 is the one that has the open chamber heads that are really prone to detonation so you would want to look at the head casting numbers and if they are D2VE I would just pass totally on that engine. Any other casting numbers would be ok but basically I won't pay that much for a 35yr old engine unless it's something with some rare or special parts on it. Now if the head casting is D2OE then yes grab that motor as it's a PI and the heads are worth the asking price but probably not.

still high IMO, but it depends on your area I guess but I always figure any used engine as a core engine and only look at it as the value of the individual pieces. I.E. if it has a aftermarket intake I will take the used value of that intake into consideration same thing with after market heads but around here I can buy core engines for $150, and running engines from a wrecking yard for 250 for a 460 and like I said I won't pay more just cause it's a private individual. I haven't paid over core engine price for a used engine in 20 yrs and just figure that price is it. the DOVE heads are your basic grandma's passenger car station wagon run of the mill factory cylinder heads and IMO are worth about $50 but many can see as much as $200 for a cleaned and magged good set so that at max with the core engine price is still only $450 which is too high (max I would pay would be $250 personally)
