I was hoping to get as many parts as I can from Luk but they may not have all the parts I need. What are your thoughts on parts from O'riellys or Autozone or would Ford be the best choice?
I have to suspect that somewhere along the line your truck was started many many times with the starter about ready to fall out. When it finally happened the PO just replaced the starter and kept his/her fingers crossed.

You can get everything you need in one boxed kit right here. http://www.southbendclutch.com/ford_catalog.html
Thier kit comes with the Kevlar pilot bushing instead of the stupid (tranny killing) pilot roller bearing.
Well guys, I called a couple different shops I know, both are owned by trusted friends and neither of them thought their lifts cound handle the F-350's weight. Huh? How much does this thing weigh?
Anyway they both said I only needed a new starter ring gear for the flywheel, not the whole thing. Appearantly you just knock the ring of teeth off with a hammer & punch and heat up the new one with a torch so it will expand enough to fit over the flywheel, then as it cools it shrinks up tight to the flywheel and voila, problem solved. I called a stealership to get this part and they said not possible, had to get whole flywheel ($202.00). Later called another stealership & he said same thing.
Acting on Dans advice I called Southbend clutch. I told the salesman (Peter) I needed a new flywheel because the teeth were wore off and he said "why not just get a new starter ring gear for the flywheel? It's a lot cheaper." I told him about the two different Ford guys that said it couldn't be done & he said they just wanted to sell a more expensive part. The part I need was in stock for $40.00, I told him I wanted to get the clutch & all the rest of the usual wear parts because of the high mileage & he said he had them in a kit for $625.00 & he would throw in the starter ring gear for free, then he went on to tell how good the new clutch would be and on & on & I didn't get all the details but I ordered it right then. He also said my 02 didn't have a dual mass flywheel (I wasn't sure if it was or not so I asked) and the shifter fork on the 02 was better than the earlier models & I didn't need to replace it either. He really sounded knowledgable on the Fords so I hope he wasn't just a good snakeoil salesman.
I'm not sure these are LUK parts or if Southbend makes their own but I'm sure they will be fine for what I need. If Dan runs & recommends them they must be good.
I can rent a transmission jack for $25.00 / day and I probably wont get any work done 'til Saturday but I'll let you all know how it works out.
Yeah really. I took the transmission out of a OBS truck, (manual) and once it was disconnected on the jack we had to flip it up on it's side and then jack the front of the truck up about a foot so the tranny would clear the pinchweld on the bottom of the cab. BTS doesnt use lifts to remove the transmissions, they just jack the *** end way up about two feet.

I never thought about doing it that way. I raised all four corners to do mine.
Oh, so you don't remove the tranny from the bell housing like on the old stuff I'm used to and there is room to get to the bell housing bolts. That don't sound so bad as I imagined. Just need to borrow or rent a transmission jack.
Do you not even jack the truck up, or will it clear with the tires on the floor?
Dan has it nailed down. Definitely be sure to pull the shift stub from the top! I skipped this step and ended up having the replace the little boot. There was nothing FUN about that little chore (or the ATF the covered EVERYTHING from the tranny back). It took about 3 hours start to finish. I did it with a large floor jack, some 2x6's and two helpers. Beer and pizza is also a nice thing to keep on hand.
I never had to jack up the truck at all. With that being said... I'm just curious why people are removing the tranny from under the truck?! I just slid it back, lowered it down and moved it all the way to the rear axle. I had plenty of room to swap the flywheel and clutch, replace the pivot, replace the front seal on the tranny that had been leaking since I bought the truck new and clean everything up.
You'll love that new clutch. Push the pedal down with your hand vs your leg.
Oh Oh,, I can do that already... I always thought the pedal was soft for what I thought a tonner should be. The clutch in the truck is softer than the one in my 88 Turbo Coupe T-bird. Oh well, if someone already put in a clutch I guess I'll just have one on the shelf.

Thats what I wanted to hear. I may want to pressure wash it if it's warm but otherwise I just want room to work.
Flywheel bolt 89 ft lb
clutch 21 ft lb.
.
Have fun. It's one of the easier tranny jobs to do. Lot's of access for everything and no "gotcha's" anywhere.
I couldn't find a spec for the driveshafts. I used blue locktight on the threads and went as tight as I could with a 12" 3/8" drive breaker bar.
You'll need a 12 point socket and a breaker bar for that job. There is not enough room for a ratchet head to fit. A wrench will work just fine but it needs to be a strong one with a pipe slipped over it. No Wal Mart cheap ones. Those bolts are pretty big with a small 12 point head on them.
