blocked return line

i have a question what would be the symptoms of a blocked return line from the ip to the tank? and could it cause the cold advance to act like it is defective?

If it was totally blocked the truck would start okay maybee run a mile or so then gradually loose power untill it quit. After it sat awhile the pressure would equalize and it would restart and do the same thing all over again. What is your symptom? cold advance not working? or staying on all the time?

Higher return pressure = higher internal ip pressure = more advanced timing

ive tried checking it when it was cold and unplugging it while it was runnig and no difference, and after it was hot i supplied 12volts to the advance and there was nothing. i could not hear any change whats so ever. to me it just doesnt seem no matter how much you adv or retard the timing it doesnt make that much of a difference. and it doesnt have the power like it should, and the reason im saying this is because i pulled a utility trailer witha mini excavator on it and i had a hard time keeping it at 55mph. somethings not right as for as power because i pull the same machine at work with a 00 chevy 2500 and i can roll with it.

And the 00 Chevy is a turbo motor.

Do you have a turbo?

If you have no change in the idle speed or sound, it does sound like your timing advance solenoid is dead.
But that solenoid only comes into play when the engine temp is below 112 degrees.
It does nothing after operating temp is reached.

6.5 turbo 190 HP 385 Ft Lbs.
6.9 NA 170 HP and 315 Ft Lbs

20 HP and 70 Ft Lbs is a lot when it comes to diesel pulling power.

the 00 chevy is a gas burner, no turbo on it. it is a vortec 350. ive noticed that when you first start it, it has alot of clatter in it until it warms up. as it warms up the clatter gets quieter, but if you drive it for a while and you come to a stop sign it clatters a lot. what do think about that dave?

Due to the fact you have an 85 I would think the Governor flex ring is fubar, possibly it has jammed up the check valve on top of the governor cover with small rubber pieces. If so then fuel will not pass and the engine will not perform right, could even stall. You can remove the 90* fitting and then view the check valve ball for black particles...... if you remove the check valve be careful with the Oring.

The clatter would indicate the timing is to advanced.
That clatter would be what I call the Power Stroke rattle.
Pete probably hit the nail on the head with the flex ring.
When it goes, timing goes all over the place like it has a mind of it's own.

Guess I stuck my foot in my mouth with the Chevy.

The clatter was more important than the fact the timing advance makes no difference in this case.

The prices seem good, 325 is not a bad exchange price.
Also since they are a Stanadyne dealer they should know what is going on.
It all comes down to how much care the techs put into the rebuild in the end though.

I see that the use of any alternative fuel including biodiesel voids the warranty.
And the warranty period is one year.

www.mwfi.com is asking 392.97 for an IP and also has a 1 year warranty, and no exclusion for running biodiesel.

I have never seen anyone posting about Pensacola Diesel.
I have seen several people post good results with mwfi products though.

I bought an injection pump out of memphis for $375.00 exchange. This IP is designed for use with Biodiesel. $325 without Biodiesel exchange.

http://www.dieselcare.net/FORDPRODUCTS.html is the website.

Good luck with the Diesel Care IP.
To many bad reports on them for me.

The cheapest parts are usually not the least expensive ones.

The last one I bought was a Ford reman, 435 exchange.
It has over 30,000 miles on it now.

Personally, I hadn't heard anybody complaining about Diesel care. I'm not saying there aren't any, I just hadn't heard of any. I found about them from a guy that drives cross country in a Ford F250 and has used their injuction pumps in the past. I changed mine back in August 2007 and after my learning what I was doing wrong when changing the IP, everything came togeather and the IP has been preforming without a problem. I can assure you, if I have a problem with the IP, I'll let everybody know.

I got a set of injectors from Pensacola, seem to be working just fine, but haven't had to deal with an injector pump yet from anyone, so i can't help there. The injectors were their rebuilts. Had I realized teh new injectors weren't that much more than the rebuilts, I probably would have gone that way.
