Mil1ion: i have two speedo clusters out of 1978 trucks. One has an Economy light on the bottom side of the speedo directly under the odometer and the other speedo does not have the economy light. The one with the Economy light came from a 1978 F150 4x4 Ranger and the other one without that light came from my 1978 F250 Custom Crewcab 4x4.
Question: what is the Economy light for? how does it work? where is the sensor that controls that light? etc. Fill me in with your great wisdom!
If search worked for beans for "non supporters" you could do a search for it, and easily find the threads Dennis has bookmarked, that cover this subject. I bet you could till find something if you typed in "fuel economy light" and set it to search this forum, it will just show you individual posts, instead of individual threads.
Sorry Mil1ion for doing that. I was looking for a quick and accurate answer rather than all the threads from everybody even though there are a lot of knowledgable people on here (and a lot of not so knowledgable people whom I would rather avoid). Just thought I'd get a better answer from you - maybe I would have if the title of the thread was different. Just wanted your quick knowledge because your "da man".
The Parts book only lists a KIT with no ingredients listed
Because the engine vacuum is determined by the RPM of the engine ..when the engine is revved up like to power up a hill the vacuum will be affected and that difference is monitored by the Economy light.
The principle is ....The light comes on when there is an extra demand for fuel thus lowering fuel economy.
The aftermarket accessory economizer gauges were a big deal on Tow trucks back in the 70's.
