Do they come with a gasket or do they still use sealant? Kind of a pain when changing the fluid it you have to remove, scrape, clean and reaseal then fill from the little hole in the front of the diff.
Mag eliminates all of that. Built in seal, hole for fill, hole for drain, dipstick and larger capacity. 50k for some of our trucks, $300 for a cover isn't much in the overall picture.
Just my $.02

Easy fix for the OEM aluminum cover. Drill, tap and 2 plugs and you've got a really inexpensive cover that does the same basic thing as the other higher priced units out there.

Does it make up for the additional fluid that a mag holds?
To my knowledge it's the same capacity as tghe EOM steel one-I'm gonn a check that later. But, think about it...is there any real reason that you NEED more than 3.5 quarts of synth lube in the rear axle? I can't think of any application(within the legal limits of the truck) that would break down the fluid bad enough to need more than 3.5 qts of fluid.

Just my 2 cents on the M H. They tell you to over fill the diff. On my brothers (GMC) the axle seals leaked, and my (F350) the pinion seal started leaking. It has a dipstick mark for the stock level and the Ford plug is in the front, so it was easy to restore the stock level, but my pinion seal kept leaking (???). My brother tows a 5th wheel and those gmc rears get HOT! You can feel with your hand that the mag hytec was a lot cooler.
i noticed the same thing with the new ford cover too i have a big tex 12gn 25' gooseneck. usually hauling large trucks and jeeps back and fourth for people purchasing not running projects and having no way to haul them. my axle is substancially cooler than with the sock steel cover and 1/4 of the price. i have no problems with the m/h cover but i still would say the ford cover is abetter product for the $$$ unless you have it to throw around.
I dont think your pinions seal was leaking form the cover swap? I have a buddy that has had his changed twice, he tows 90% of the time with his dually so I think thats what was causing it....
i agree with slowmans 110% on this one last sd i had seen hard use everyday. changed two pinion seals in rear leaking. 100k on my 03 no problems yet but i change my diff fluid every 25k and i always fill full probably overfull. never seen a seal go on my new sd yet. and i tow on a regular basis these days.
