I dont mind manual steering and brakes but what can I do to make it easier with out adding a power steering pump is there differnt gear ratios for the box? also on drums in the front and closed knuckle 44 what other options do I have for this. Would a newer 44 work with disc or are drums fine with 35s tires. can a booster be added behind the master to give better braking? I know on semi truck they have drums all around so I would think with a booster the brakes would be efficent.
You can put in a brake booster, but I would also upgrade to (at least) front disc brakes. Drum brakes work ok, but they bring teh suck when you get them hot, or wet. I do not know about making your steering any easier with a different ratio on the box, myself personally, I would upgrade to power steering from a 77.5-79 F250 4x4, providing your truck is a 4x4 (I assume by your post) With 35s, and manual steering, you can convert to a custom "Armstrong" steering unit. Yer Armstong after you drive that truck a few months.
Buy her a Geo Tracker. Seriously tho, I do not know your wife, but if she is like mine, if it doesn't steer without fighting it, it wanders all over the road, and the brakes are scary, she will NOT drive it.
I put a steering **** on my 73 manual everything it has 36's so not real fun. The **** works good but you have to use it or it could do some damage to your arm.
Okay I got a 78 truck now so what is envoled in getting the 78 d44 disc under my 73? I will worry about the power steering later just want to get it under her and back on the road.
